Specialist Psychodynamic Child and Young Person’s Counsellor
Leena is one of our specialist Child and Young Person’s Counsellors. She has been working at the Turner Centre seeing young people and children since qualifying.
She has experience of working in both primary and secondary schools with children and teenagers struggling with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties including school phobia, anger management, self-harm, abuse, anxiety and eating disorders. Leena is also our designated counsellor linked to one of the local schools providing counselling to their students both at the school and at the Turner Centre, depending on where the students feel most comfortable to be seen.
She sees adults as well as children and young people and prides herself on her ability to provide an empathic space and offers a regular, safe and confidential space for people to explore and discuss their problems and difficult feelings. Her aim is to help the young person or adult to overcome issues that are causing emotional pain anxiety or generally feeling uncomfortable. She won’t tell you what to do; instead she will encourage you to talk about what is bothering you, and by working together, she can help you gain a better understanding of yourself and make sense of your feelings and emotions. Looking at past experiences, and ways of relating to others can be helpful when trying to understand current issues.
Leena is currently extending her practice to see families as part of her on going training in family and systemic therapy and is therefore offering a reduced rate for family sessions while she is in training. Systemic practice is a way of talking together that supports family members to explore difficult thoughts and feelings safely; to understand each others experiences and views and be more able to help each other.
Leena holds a Masters Degree in Psychodynamic Counselling, a BSc in Psychology and a Post Grad Cert in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regents University.
