Specialist Psychodynamic Counsellor for Children and Young People
Rhonda is an experienced child and adolescent Psychodynamic Counsellor/Psychotherapist and has been working with children and young people for over 15 years. She prides herself on being a relational therapist who blends techniques for a holistic approach to meet individual needs. She has been working in private fostering for the past 4 and half years working with families, children and young people who have experienced complex trauma and a range of psychological difficulties.
Rhonda's approach is deeply informed by attachment theory, which suggests that understanding our earliest relationships is key to transforming our current ones. She supports children and young people to look into their unconscious mind. as she believes this is the root system of who we are and to be curious at how past experiences influence the here and now.
Working with children and young people has been a deep life long passion for Rhonda and being able to help young people find a sense of belonging and identity without the constraints of trauma, enabling an understanding of themselves - is key to recovery.
She integrates polyvagal theory to help understand the connection between mind and the body which helps clients to think about their nervous system and the imprint of trauma, enabling them to work with the body’s survival responses and not against them, to achieve true safety and emotional regulation. She supports young people to truly understand who they and help them to find their true authentic self.
She has a particular interest in eating disorders (food issues), self-harm, grief and loss, transitions and endings.
Rhonda holds an MA (Masters degree) in Child and Adolescent Counselling from the University of Essex and has undertaken several Continuing Professional Development courses.
