Integrative Counsellor
Alison is an experienced integrative counsellor who works at the Turner Centre in private practice.
Alison believes in the importance of providing a safe, confidential space where you can feel seen and heard, free from judgement. She listens with empathy and compassion and works with you at your own pace to aim to become empowered.
By working in an integrative way Alison uses aspects of different theoretical models. In this way she can work with you in the best way that is unique for you. She also believes in the power of psychodynamic therapy, where by working together you can aim to begin to understand how the past impacts current behaviours and ways of being in the present.
She is experienced in working with individuals suffering with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. She has experience of working with loss and bereavement and with the CRUSE bereavement charity seeing individuals experiencing loss. She has also worked with adults experiencing trauma and works with individuals in understanding the impact of trauma on the body.
You may come to counselling with a particular difficulty but it may be that you just want to explore the feelings you have and begin to understand them. Alison aims to meet you where you are in your experience. From there she can begin to explore how you are feeling. Patterns of fear, hopelessness and anxiety can leave us feeling stuck and often past responses remain in our experience. In identifying behaviours’ we can aim to make changes.
Counselling can be short or longer term.
Prior to her counsellor training Alison worked as teacher for many years and has extensive experience in supporting people.
Alison is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She completes continuous professional training. As an accredited member it shows recognition of high standards of knowledge and experience. Alison holds a diploma in integrative counselling and a Batchelor in Education degree as well as having completed her certification qualification in Complex Trauma.
