Family and Systemic Psychotherapist

My name is Irena. I am a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and I have worked with couples (especially parental couples), children, young people and their families for more than 25 years – in three countries – Romania, Canada and the UK.

I believe that in systemic psychotherapy we create opportunities to have honest conversations about matters that are important to you, to make links between your current relational dynamics and intra or intergenerational influences, scrips and patterns, which could enable more understanding, connection and authenticity in your relationships.

I prefer adopting a ‘not knowing’ stance in psychotherapy – which enables a genuine curiosity and openness to people’s perspectives of their experiences. This position also acknowledges that people are the experts in their own lives and that therapeutic conversations could help in drawing attention to multiple stories and identities.

Although my experience is mainly in working with couples and families navigating attachment and relationship struggles, neurodivergence, mental health difficulties and eating disorders, I am open and interested to be part of therapeutic exploration journeys in addressing any variety of ‘difficulties’ that people bring into the therapy space. My style is compassionate, transparent and brave – as I am unafraid of having uncomfortable conversations, which could be meaningful, reconnecting and could make a difference for people’s relationship wellbeing.

I hold a Master’s degree (MA) in Systemic Psychotherapy from the University of Essex and The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. I am a registered member of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy): Member of College of Family, Couple and Systemic Psychotherapy and I am a registered member of the Association for Family and Systemic Psychotherapy.
