Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist
It can be difficult to begin therapy, especially if it is something very new. I hope to make this easier by making you feel comfortable in a safe space where anything can be said and thought about. Therapy can address challenging feelings, thoughts and experiences, which we can explore together in order to bring a sense of stability and clarity within. You can be assured that we will approach whatever comes up in the sessions with care, in a way that feels supportive and collaborative. With time, this process can allow a deeper connection to yourself, better relationships with others, and relief from emotional distress.
I am a therapist specialising in the psychodynamic approach, which is based on the idea that change comes from a deeper understanding of how past experiences influence current difficulties. This approach involves reconnecting with parts of the self that may have been forgotten or pushed away, but that may be causing distress underneath the surface.
There may be a specific issue that you come with which we can work through together, or there may be a vague feeling of dissatisfaction or unhappiness, which we can explore and find a path forward. Either way, the psychodynamic approach provides the space to help you untangle the conflicts in your life.
I have experience working with individuals who have struggled with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger, loss and grief, trauma, abuse, existential questions, and cultural or identity issues. Outside of therapy, I have worked in a role supporting individuals with autism, which has given me a wider understanding of the autism spectrum and its effect on an individual’s life.
The direction of therapy can sometimes shift when something new emerges that requires care and attention. It is an ongoing process where we explore what is important at the time and build a therapeutic relationship that holds the space to support lasting growth.
I hold a Master’s degree (MA) in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
